TEXT BOOKS
As a Taxi driver you will need to carry a list of areas and ranks, a current UBD and street index guide in the vehicle at all times. You are strongly advised to purchase these from the Garden City Cabs office when you register for the training course. We will also loan you a copy of the training handbook. We urge you to study this material as much as possible prior to the course.

DRESS STANDARDS
When driving a Garden City Cabs taxi, a dress code is enforced; consequently when training, all students will be required to dress in a manner befitting these standards. This should be at least dress shorts with long socks or dress trousers and shirts with collars. No exceptions will be made and students will not be permitted to attend the course unless suitably dressed.

LOCALITY TEST INFORMATION
The test comprises of two parts.
Part One - This part tests the applicant?s knowledge of 35 well known establishments throughout the city. It is a multiple-choice test, requiring a pass mark of 30 correct answers.
Part Two -
This section requires the student to name precisely the streets you would travel on to go from point A to point B as required.

To study for the locality test you will need to use a current street directory and map as well as the telephone book. You will need to identify the street locations of the following features: -
Hospitals, hotels, motels, restaurants, public offices such as the City Hall and Council Chambers, all schools including State, Special and private, the emergency services such as Police, Fire and Ambulance, Transport terminals such as Greyhound, Transit Centre, Toowoomba Airport and the Railway station; Government offices as well as places of interest including Clifford Park and the Toowoomba Showgrounds. Be sure of the main entrances of all features studied.

INSURANCE EXCESS
When driving a taxi there is always the chance you will have a motor vehicle accident. Should you be at fault in the accident you will be deemed liable for payment of any relevant excess (the excess still applies if you are not deemed to be at fault and may be credited back to you on completion of the claim). In some circumstances this excess can be as high as $1,500.00 (depending on any age excess that may apply). Drivers are advised to make provision for such an event by at least using a separate bank account and making regular deposits.

PLEASE LISTEN TO ALL OF YOUR INSTRUCTORS AND YOU ARE ADVISED TO TAKE NOTES DURING THE LECTURE SESSIONS.
